General Notes:
The 1880 Pottawatomie County, Kansas census reveals that a Joseph Myers, age 74, born in North Carolina, was living there with his wife and their four sons. Living next door were his sister Sarah's son, Daniel Spalding, his wife and their children.

MYERS, Joseph The Oldest Inhabitant Gone. Joseph Myers, the oldest person in this part of the county, died Tuesday, May 22, 1894, at 2 P.M. The deceased was born in North Carolina, April 21, 1806, and therefore died in his 89th year. When quite young, he moved to Indiana and a little later to Illinois. He married Elanor Mann, January 11, 1825. His wife died in 1846. June 5, 1853, he married Sarah A. Ware, who still survives him. The deceased was an old soldier. He enlisted in Company D, 25th Iowa volunteers. He was discharged in less than a year on account of disability resulting from varicose viens. [sic] Mr. Myers moved to Kansas in 1866, settling in Cherokee County and in 1871 moved to Pottawatomie County and took a claim near Westmoreland. He was by trade a painter and carpenter. He had been for about fifty years a member of the Christian Church and was a member of the Westmoreland post G. A. R. He was the father of seventeen ceildren, (sic).
The funeral services will be held to-morrow at 2 P.M. under the auspices of the post. H. D. Fisher D. D. will preach the sermon.
The breaved [sic] wife who is thus left alone has the sincere sympathy of all.

Note from Frena 2/13/06: I originally had George Myers listed as one of Sarah & Joseph's children, however, information obtained at http://www.jjwillis39.addr.com/pafg479.htm#12740 shows that George was born while Sarah was still married to her first husband, Michael O. Ware, and is actually George William Ware.
Joseph married Elanor Mann on 11 Jan 1825. (Elanor Mann died in 1846.)
Joseph next married Sarah Angeline Jones on 5 Jun 1853 in Warren City, IL.1 (Sarah Angeline Jones was born in Dec 1830 in Indiana and died between 1900 and 1910 in Kansas 2.)
