Birthday surprise
Editors rec order:
A genuine old-fashioned surprise party was given to Daniel
Spaulding, on the occasion of his 58th birthday, April 6th.
His brothers, and children, and a few intimate friends only
were invited to attend the party. It was a ha ppy surprise to
Uncle Dan and family. We met in the city of Westmoreland, and at
11:30 a.m., a small crowd of thirty-five, wended our way over
the hill to Uncle Dan's residence with our loaded baskets and a
few small presents, which were thankfully accepted by him. The
following is the list of presents:

When, at a later hour, dinner was served, l o! and be hold, the
table was loaded with eatables, and six old hens yielded u p
their lives as sacrifice to the hungry guests. After dinner we
spent a few hours in social chat, then departed to our several
homes, wishing Uncle Dan to live to see fifty-eight more
birthdays.
